Choosing our camper and truck set-up was not a quick decision. There were many factors that weighed into us making the choice we did. We didn’t limit ourselves to just looking at campers that would go in the bed of the truck we also considered getting an RV, trailer or overland vehicle. There are so many options and any one of these we could have gone for.
We went with our truck mainly because we already owned it and we know it can handle some of the bumpy roads we plan on traveling. The truck is in good condition and the engine is reliable. We have a 2003 Dodge Cummins 250 ton 4×4. This year and model is known for lasting a long time and can handle the weight of a camper.
The FourWheel Hawk edition camper is low profile, light weight and flexible which is important when it comes to being able to put it in a shipping container one day and agile enough to be on the truck as we go over some bumpy terrain. We want to be able to go off the grid. So we need the basic amenities like water, shelter and a way to store food and cook it. There are some things that are nice to have but not completely necessary, like an inside toilet and shower. We do have a shower on the outside and we have found creative ways to go to the bathroom while off grid that we will tell you about later.
