In the next few days we celebrate a year of stick-n-brick living. Prescott, Arizona has been our home and how quickly the time has passed. The simplicity of life on the road all but seems to fade as we rejoin the masses. Mortgages, utility bills, and the accumulation of “stuff” quickly fill the once purged void. Only through sharing stories with friends or the Facebook flashback reminders do we find ourselves back in the moment. Back to a simpler time. Back to a fantasy world of adventure and uncertainty. Do we regret our choice to once again be a contributing members of society? Not in the least bit. New friends, a new home, and a new playground to explore have made the past year fly by.
It takes less time to fall back into normal routines than it did to live in the moment while on our journey. My fellow nomads and travelers can relate to the time warp one finds themselves in while living day-to-day on the road. Needs become primordial and simple. Do we have food? A safe place to sleep? Do we have enough resources to make it through the next day? Enter the basics of psychology and human needs. Maslow?
We have continued with a tradition of befriending fellow travelers, vagabonds, and kindred souls. Opening our home to these rebels of society. Sharing with them our experiences, while equally being entertained by their own personal journeys. Our home is becoming the launch pad for wanderlust.
A Swiss/ French man setting out on an adventure of a lifetime, traveling the Americas in our old Scotty in search of the perfect break, sandy beaches, and simple living. Or, a truly brave young woman setting out on her own to India to seek enlightenment or her band of sisters on a road trip to remember, before setting off. Then packing her way through Nepal with nothing more than a desire to explore.
We can’t help but be a little jealous, excited, and wish them well as they set out on transformational adventures. Who will be our next guest?
